Press Release
How long will the world continue to watch the massacres against the people of Gaza?!
August 25, 2025
The European Campaign for Gaza condemns, in the strongest terms, the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces on the morning of Monday, August 25, 2025, by directly targeting the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip. This attack claimed the lives of the on-call doctor and five journalists, including Reuters photographer Hossam al-Masri, in addition to a member of the Civil Defense, and injured others.
This complex crime—in its deliberate targeting of medical facilities, ambulance crews, and journalists—represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and its Additional Protocols, which guarantee special protection for doctors, medical facilities, and civilian journalists during armed conflict. This crime is a clear example of the ongoing war crimes and genocide against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip since October 2023.
The double targeting, first of the emergency building and later of journalists and civil defense personnel while performing their humanitarian duty, clearly reflects a deliberate approach aimed at obliterating witnesses, suppressing the truth, and deepening the tragedy of the Palestinian people by disrupting medical, media, and humanitarian support.
In light of this, we, the European Campaign for Gaza, demand the following:
1) An urgent international investigation by the Human Rights Council and the UN Special Procedures into this crime and its predecessors.
2) The political and legal prosecution of the occupation leaders before the International Criminal Court on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
3) Immediate intervention by the international community to impose special protection for health facilities, ambulance crews, and media personnel in the Gaza Strip, and to ensure their freedom of work without targeting or restriction.
4) Work to stop the war of extermination, open the crossings, and allow the urgent entry of medical and humanitarian aid, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
While we condemn this crime that flouts all human and legal values, we affirm that the continued silence of the international community constitutes practical complicity in the crime. Justice will only be achieved by holding the perpetrators accountable and putting an end to the decades-long policy of impunity pursued by the occupying state.
